History of Rueda

The history of Rueda begins in Roman times, referred to as “Roda” during the reign of King Don Pelayo in the 8th century. Initially part of the community of Medina del Campo, Rueda gained autonomy in 1636 when King Philip IV granted it the title of Villa. Since then, its association with wine has been notable, standing out for the internationally recognised quality of its wines, especially the Verdejo. In 1977, the Denomination of Origin Rueda was officially recognised, the oldest in Castilla y León. Rueda also stands out for its rich architecture and was declared a Monumental Ensemble in 2006.

Church of Our Lady of the Assumption
